CDC: E. coli Linked to Organic Carrots sickens 39 people in 18 states
An E. coli outbreak has been linked to multiple brands of recalled organic whole bagged carrots and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms. According to the Centers for Disease and Control, this outbreak has led to 39 cases, 15 hospitalizations and one death in 18 states, including 5 in New York.
Grimmway Farms recalled multiple sizes and brands of bagged organic baby and whole carrots on November 16th. While these carrots are likely no longer in stores for sale, they still may be in people’s homes if they were purchased before the recall. The CDC urges people to not eat any potentially affected carrots and to throw them away. Additionally, wash items and surfaces that may have touched the recalled carrots using hot soapy water or dishwasher.
